You are very young, but I remember those distant times in the month of August when a surreal situation occurred in Spain.
The government allowed the return and escape of the fugitive Puigdemont
Exactly three months ago, on August 8, a fugitive from justice, Carles Puigdemont, who is subject to an arrest warrant issued by the Supreme Court for a serious crime of embezzlement of public funds (punishable by sentences of two to six years in prison), announced that he would attend a public event in Spain, arrived and left without being arrested. It was a humiliation for all other Spaniards, who are obliged to respect and comply with the law and who face harsh consequences if we do not.
The Sánchez government did not take responsibility for this scandalous escape and even defended the Catalan police for having let this fugitive from justice escape. That was a clear display of the pact of impunity between Sánchez and Puigdemont, a pact signed in exchange for the support of Junts, the separatist party led by this fugitive, for the re-election of the socialist leader as president of the government.
The government ordered the urgent arrest of those who made Sánchez flee
Things change if we talk about any ordinary Spaniard. Today, the newspaper El Mundo points out that the government sent an emergency helicopter with five elite agents of the Civil Guard to Valencia last Sunday, to capture the people who had protested in Paiporta against Sánchez a few hours earlier, a protest from which the president of the government fled like a coward, being exposed inside and outside our borders.
The same government that took 4 days to deploy the Army after the cold snap
That helicopter was sent by the same government that took four days to deploy the Army in Valencia to assist those affected by the cold drop catastrophe, who were without electricity or running water all that time and enduring robberies and looting in the absence of the Security Forces. With this message, the government is sending a very clear message: the lives of thousands of Valencians matter much less to it than the tarnished image of Pedro Sánchez.
The hoax that the alleged attackers were 'far-right'
In addition to this emergency police deployment, the government spread the hoax that the alleged aggressors were "far-right" , a hoax that has been denied by the Civil Guard , which has not found a single far-right activist among those already arrested and among those being investigated. "Those arrested so far are people from the area who were in Paiporta working as volunteers ," the Civil Guard said. In other words, they were the ones who were cleaning the streets and helping those affected while the government took a break and looked the other way.
Another example of the corruption of the Sánchez government
The difference between these Valencians and Puigdemont is that Sanchez does not depend on the support of these street cleaners to stay in power, and that is why he is pursuing them with the utmost rigor three months after scandalously letting his separatist ally escape. Sanchez believes that he is the State and that he can do whatever he wants, abusing his power and privileging his allies. It is one more example of the political corruption in which this government is up to its neck, and it is one more reason to conclude that either we Spaniards throw this government out or Sánchez will end up establishing a regime like Putin's here, a regime marked by corruption and abuse of power.
