I have been denouncing the ideological fraud that is the Popular Party (PP) for many years, and perhaps some people believed that I was exaggerating.
Today we have another example of this ideological scam: the PP has broken off negotiations with Vox on the regional budgets of the Balearic Islands. The news published by Efe points out in this regard that, in addition to this decision, the PP has decided to save the law of "democratic memory", which imposes the sectarian vision of the left on our history, a vision of good and bad that systematically hides the crimes committed by socialists, communists, anarchists and separatists during the Spanish Civil War.
The Efe report states that "Vox will make its support conditional on Catalan ceasing to be the vehicular language in education." However, Vox Baleares states that it defends linguistic freedom and that both languages, Spanish and Catalan, should be vehicular languages in educational centers. The PP, which prides itself on defending "cordial bilingualism", has refused to do so, despite the fact that Feijóo said in 2023 that he defended a linguistic "balance". Those of us who know its linguistic policy in Galicia already know what this gentleman's idea of "balance" is.
At this point, I reiterate one of the objections I have always raised to what has been the main electoral claim of the PP: the so-called "useful vote", a claim that supports the idea that we should vote for the PP to prevent the left and nationalism from governing in certain communities and throughout Spain.
However, the PP has ended up assuming a large part of the progressive and nationalist ideological dogmas, dogmas such as the qualification of the monstrosity of abortion as a "right", the tolerance towards illegal immigration, the social democratic recipes in economic matters that contribute to fattening the State by fiscally plundering the Spanish people, the nationalist linguistic policies that serve to corner the Spanish language in several regions of Spain, the gender ideology that generates inequality between men and women and imposes all kinds of sexual nonsense in schools, and the green fanaticism that is ruining our agricultural sector and the automobile industry.
For some time now, the PP's "red lines" have no longer been in the defence of life or our freedoms in areas such as education, languages and the economy, among other aspects. What the PP considers untouchable now are the leftist and nationalist dogmas, to which it has submitted in a mixture of ideological laziness, cowardice and eagerness to obtain the blessing of those who called it "fascist" for not subscribing to all the discourse of the left.
In this way, the PP has become a useless vote for any centre-right voter, but very useful for the left, whose ideological laws it has left intact even when it had an absolute majority like the one Rajoy received in 2011.
At this rate, the PP will end up taking the place of the PSOE if that party ever disappears under tons of corruption scandals, and Vox would remain the true useful vote for the conservatives, as long as it remains faithful to its principles. Does this seem like an exaggerated possibility to you? This is already happening in countries like Poland, where the Citizens' Platform, the Polish partner of the PP, is governing with the left and with the conservatives of the Law and Justice party in the opposition. And this is also what is happening in Brussels, where the socialists and the European People's Party have been allies for many years.
