In 2004, the Congress of Deputies unanimously approved the so-called "gender violence law" promoted by the socialists.
A law that establishes unequal punishments based on sex
This law establishes unequal penalties depending on the sex of the person who commits a crime and, in addition, commits something that should also be strictly prohibited in any democratic country: it prejudges certain crimes committed by a man against a woman based on their sexual condition, stating that "gender violence" - a term coined by this law - is "violence that is directed against women for the very fact of being women", instead of individually judging the conduct of the person who commits the crime. It is like considering that all men who beat their wives were part of a global conspiracy, without providing any evidence of this.
All of this was done by appealing to the fact that statistically there are more cases of violence by men against women than the other way around. To give us an idea, it is as if the law prejudged certain crimes because they were committed by Basques, communists or Muslims, two groups in which there has historically been a much higher incidence of terrorist crimes in Spain than in the rest of society. Let us remember that in 2019, the socialist Alfonso Guerra acknowledged that this law is "unconstitutional", but confessed that there was strong pressure on the Constitutional Court to approve it, pressures that were successful due to the politicization of that court.
Vox is left alone in rejecting a pact based on that law
Yesterday, a congressional commission approved the opinion of the Pact against Gender Violence, a pact based on that openly unconstitutional and anti-democratic law. Vox was the only party that voted against it, in line with its rejection of that law for the reasons I have stated. Personally, I congratulate Vox for its vote against, with which it proved to be the only party that takes seriously what Article 14 of the Spanish Constitution says:
"Spaniards are equal before the law and may not in any way be discriminated against on account of birth, race, sex, religion, opinion or any other personal or social condition or circumstance.".
The PP once again gives in to the abuses of the left
Let us remember that in 2004 the Popular Party (PP) already supported this infamous law and yesterday voted in favour of this opinion of the pact that develops it. It is a paradox, since the PP always boasts of being a "constitutionalist" party but when push comes to shove, when it comes time to defend the Constitution against the abuses of the left, we are only left with Vox. With its support for this infamous law and all the measures derived from it - which do not serve to protect abused women, but to maintain the immense business of feminist organisations and the immense avalanche of false accusations - the PP once again demonstrates that it is part of the problem, and not part of the solution.
For my part, yesterday's vote is a reason to continue trusting my vote to Vox. The PP is a party that has absolutely no intention of doing anything that could provoke a reprimand from the media that are close to socialists and communists. The PP is a cowardly and unvotable party, and its complicity with the left is one of the main reasons why Spain and its Constitution are being trampled on without any real opposition other than that posed by Vox, as we saw again this Monday.
