One of the great successes of the Marxist left in recent decades has been to appropriate, distort and corrupt feminism.
The difference between equity feminism and gender feminism
I will not repeat what I have already said before, since in 2018 I already explained here how feminism was stolen by the left to disguise theories arising from Marxism. Ten years earlier, in 2008, I explained here the approach of a feminist, Christina Hoff Sommers, who distinguishes between "equity feminism", which fights for equal opportunities from a liberal perspective and with which she identifies (and which was in fact the feminism defended by the pioneers of this movement), and "gender feminism", which uses victimhood to impose the theses of "political correctness" and deny the right to dissent.
The success of the left with this robbery has caused many to forget that there is no single feminism, and that in fact there are antagonistic feminist currents. Obviously, an equity feminist who defends the right to equality cannot subscribe to the theses of gender feminism in favor of liquidating that right, as happened in Spain in 2004 with a law that establishes different punishments for the same crime depending on the sex of the person who commits it.
The gap that has opened up in leftist feminism itself
In fact, a gap has emerged within leftist feminism itself due to gender ideology, a movement that has led to the approval of crazy laws that have gone so far as to give men access to women's changing rooms and women's sports competitions, creating purely absurd situations. Let us remember that this gender feminism has reduced the sentences for rapists in Spain, setting many of them free, something that has caused a scandal even among many left-wing feminists.
So, as much as some people insist on it, there is no single feminism and criticizing one of its currents does not make you a "sexist". In fact, criticizing the excesses and irrationality of gender feminism, especially its far-left faction, is something that many feminists see as necessary. The worst thing is that by stealing feminism, the left has managed to make many sensible people detest the term, to the point of considering that feminism was never necessary and is not necessary today.
Women in the West enjoy equality
No matter what the left says to the contrary, in the West, levels of equality between men and women have been achieved that meet the objectives of the pioneers of feminism, objectives that were equal rights and equal opportunities, and not the promotion of hatred of men or the desire to provoke a battle of the sexes, which the left promotes as a mere projection of the Marxist class struggle, presenting women as oppressed and men as oppressors. The fact is that not everyone enjoys the same situation of equality that exists in the West.
Discrimination against women in Islamic countries
Today, in many Islamic countries women still suffer outrageous discrimination, even to the point of suffering harsh punishments for not wearing the Islamic veil, a garment that represents the clearest symbol of oppression of women in these countries. In some Islamic countries, even stoning still exists as a punishment for women who commit adultery (the same does not apply to men who are unfaithful to their wives). On the other hand, the rape laws of some Islamic countries seem more designed to punish the victim than the rapist. The story of the misfortunes suffered by women in these countries would provide many articles like this one.
Curiously, left-wing feminism tends to look the other way when it comes to discrimination against women in these countries, simply because for decades, a large part of the left has seen Islamism as an ally in its fight against the West. That is why the Left has been so vile in the face of the atrocities of Hamas terrorists against Israeli civilians in their attack on October 7, 2023, atrocities that included rape and kidnapping of women to be used as sex slaves. Leftist feminism has already shown the same vileness in the face of the rapes and kidnappings of Yazidi girls and women by ISIS during the Nineveh genocide, perpetrated by these Islamist terrorists in northern Iraq in 2014.
A situation that is being transferred to the West with Islamic immigration
Today, this infamous attitude is being transferred to the West, with a left that turns a blind eye when women suffer abuse and rape by Muslim immigrants, just as it happens when a homosexual is attacked by them. Apparently, among the "oppressed groups" that the left looks after, women and homosexuals occupy a lower position than Islamic immigrants, simply because the left sees in them a great source of votes that it no longer finds among the native population.
Precisely for all this, feminism is still necessary today, but not in the way that many claim it to be. We do not need a gender feminism that only seeks to generate hatred and division. What we need is a return to equality feminism, to feminism as it was in its origins, before the left appropriated it and distorted it. We need a feminism that defends equal rights and opportunities where they still do not exist today (as is the case in Islamic countries), and that also defends women against situations of discrimination that arise in a West that is suffering, in some cases, a process of Islamization that threatens the rights and security of many women.
Instead of denouncing this discrimination, the left defends the Islamic veil
The most painful thing is to see that today the left that calls "feminism" to promote a battle between the sexes, at the same time calls "Islamophobia" to denounce the situation of women under Islam, a left that today defends the Islamic veil instead of denouncing its use as a way of treating women as second-class human beings, as property that must be hidden. This left has not only stolen feminism, but has also betrayed its original principles, becoming the great ally of the countries that most discriminate against women today.
