On August 4, 1994, at 12:20 a.m., a twin-engine Beechcraft BE-70 aircraft took off from Barajas Airport in Madrid, bound for Malaga.
At 2:17 p.m., communication with the Beechcraft BE-70 was interrupted after its pilot mistook the town of Villanueva del Rosario (Málaga) for Málaga Airport and attempted to take off. The 1969 aircraft had civilian registration EC-FLZ and was flying an ambulance service for TASISA, with four people on board: the pilot and three passengers.
Unfortunately, the aircraft crashed in the Sierra de los Camarolos mountain range after failing to gain altitude sufficient to clear some cliffs. All occupants died. According to the official accident report (see PDF), there were low clouds at the time of the accident, which may have contributed to the confusion that led to the tragic end of the EC-FLZ.
This afternoon, the excellent YouTube channel Aventuras Entresierras (which I recommend subscribing to if you enjoy urban exploration, nature, and bivouacs) published an interesting video exploring the accident area and searching for remains of the EC-FLZ. I won't tell you what the people in the video found; it's better to see it for yourself (the video is in Spanish, you can activate automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):
Podéis ver aquí algunas capturas en las que no desvelo el resultado de la búsqueda. En ellas vemos los bonitos paisajes de la Sierra de los Camarolos que aparecen en este vídeo.
