The Spanish left seems very upset with Israel's victory last night in the Eurovision popular vote in Spain and in Europe.
Yesterday, the anti-Semitic campaign by Pedro Sánchez's government to cover up his corruption scandals went wrong, but the Spanish left is far from acknowledging its mistake. Just look at the message published today by the leftist Xabier Fortes, director and presenter of the program La noche en 24 horas on RTVE.
"Either we go back to jury voting or this makes no sense under the current circumstances. It's anything but a song festival."
It's funny that she's now complaining that this is "anything but a song festival" after RTVE asked to expel the Israeli contestant from the festival for political reasons and ignoring the fact that she is a survivor of the Hamas terrorist attack of October 7, 2023, the largest massacre suffered by the Jewish people since the Holocaust. But what is most revealing about Fortes's curious sense of democracy is that he calls for the popular vote to be suppressed after Israel's victory, a country he has falsely accused of "genocide", an accusation Fortes has made neither against Hamas (which perpetrated a massacre of men, women and children for being Jewish) nor against Russia, which has been murdering civilians in Ukraine for three years.
In fact, yesterday Fortes defended RTVE's politicization of the festival, violating the warning from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the festival's organizer, which had warned that it could impose a fine on the Spanish public channel if it insisted on introducing politics into its broadcast of the event. Fortes stated: "I prefer to pay a fine than to be an accomplice to genocide". An argument that is doubly false, since Israel has not committed any genocide and the fine would not be paid by Fortes, but by all Spaniards, who are the ones who support RTVE with our taxes, even though we never watch any of its channels.
Curiously, these kinds of messages in favor of suppressing the popular vote at Eurovision weren't read when other countries won, as has happened in other editions of the festival. They didn't mind it then. Leftists like Fortes view the popular vote negatively after Israel's victory. A way of expressing their peculiar idea of democracy: Either you vote for what they want or the vote is suppressed.
It should be noted that Fortes has been behaving like a PSOE fan on RTVE for years. This is yet another example of the control the socialists exert over the public channel, where manipulation in favor of the government has become the norm, with total shamelessness. The problem for them is that there are more media outlets in Spain, so we can find out what RTVE doesn't want us to know. With this sectarianism, the only thing they achieve is that more and more Spaniards ask for the closure of RTVE, a tax-devouring monster (its budget in 2024 was 1.3 billion euros and it has already accumulated a debt of 430 million) that is used by the government of Pedro Sánchez, his particular organ of propaganda.
+ UPDATED 6:39 PM: As if they hadn't made enough fools of themselves already, they're going even further. According to El País, TVE will request an audit of the Spanish televote received during the Eurovision final this Monday. They never asked for such an audit when they were happy with the result. Things change when the winner is Israel.
