I've been warning for some time about what some people are trying to sell us with the lure of Hispanicity, and now also with Catholicism.
Yesterday, historian Marcelo Gullo published a message on Twitter stating the following:
"With Vanguardia Española, a culturally Catholic left emerges in Spain, a Hispanic left, an anti-imperialist left, that is, a national left. The youth of VE are the hope of Spain."
I confess my astonishment at the statement I highlight in bold. I have been warning about that far-left group called "Vanguardia Española" for two years. On its website it includes a manifesto that says:
"We also feel like heirs to the best of the Spanish labor and union movement, to the most sensible socialism and communism in our history."
On its Twitter account in March 2023, Vanguardia Española published a message praising the dictator and genocidal Stalin, expressing its "respect and admiration for his rule and his work".
In September 2023, Vanguardia Española praised the communist dictatorship of North Korea, saying it is "an example of resistance, sovereignty, insubordination and singular patriotism". Let us remember that that dictatorship is the country that persecutes Christians the most in the world, according to a report published in January by the Christian NGO Open Doors.
In August 2023, Vanguardia Española praised the Cuban communist dictatorship, stating that it is "an example of resistance and political sovereignty". Let us remember that this dictatorship has been governing the island of Cuba without free elections, with a single-party system and violating the most basic human rights since 1959.
What I was missing was someone having the nerve to define this totalitarian garbage as "culturally Catholic."
It should be remembered, in case anyone is unaware of this fact, that the Catholic Church has firmly condemned communism, as Pope Pius XI stated in the encyclical "Divini Redemptoris":
"The doctrine of modern Communism, which is often concealed under the most seductive trappings, is in substance based on the principles of dialectical and historical materialism previously advocated by Marx, of which the theoricians of bolshevism claim to possess the only genuine interpretation. (...)
In such a doctrine, as is evident, there is no room for the idea of God; there is no difference between matter and spirit, between soul and body; there is neither survival of the soul after death nor any hope in a future life. (...)
Communism, moreover, strips man of his liberty, robs human personality of all its dignity, and removes all the moral restraints that check the eruptions of blind impulse. There is no recognition of any right of the individual in his relations to the collectivity; no natural right is accorded to human personality, which is a mere cog-wheel in the Communist system."
Let us remember that Communism was, along with Nazism, the worst and most lethal totalitarianism of the 20th century. This totalitarian movement established more than fifty dictatorships (some of which persist today and under which 20% of humanity lives, without the most basic rights and freedoms) and killed more than 100 million people. A communist organization not only cannot be "culturally Catholic," but is essentially anti-Catholic. Let no one try to fool you with this.
