I have long criticized some of Donald Trump's foreign policy positions, and I will continue to do so.
The success of the US attack on Iran and the pitiful role of the UN
That doesn't stop me from acknowledging their successes. The attack launched last night by the United States against Iran's nuclear program, with which that great power finally joins Israel's efforts to stop this serious threat to the entire West, is a great success. It is regrettable that previous US administrations have not had the determination to stop this nuclear program, giving the Iranian Islamist dictatorship time that has been used to develop nuclear weapons.
The role of the UN has been particularly regrettable. While the ayatollahs' dictatorship committed all kinds of atrocities against its people and actively supported Islamist terrorism in several countries, it elected the Iranian dictatorship to serve as vice president of its General Assembly in 2023. A complete absurdity for an organization that was created to safeguard human rights but which has been admitting the most criminal dictatorships into its fold, even granting two of them—Russia and China—the right to veto in its Security Council.
Irene Montero says about the US and Israel what she has never said about Russia and Iran
Preventing a terrorist regime from acquiring nuclear weapons is necessary, no matter how much many, who make hypocrisy and double standards their political banners, are now rushing to criticize it. One example is the far left. Today, communist Irene Montero, of Podemos, stated: "The US and Israel are currently the two greatest dangers that exist for humanity" (curiously, this is what this communist leader has never said about dictatorships like Iran, Russia, China, and North Korea. Montero has also called for Spain's withdrawal from NATO and a veto on the US from using our military bases in accordance with the agreements signed by both countries.
Irene Montero's statements should not surprise anyone, considering Podemos's ties to the Iranian dictatorship and its favors to Russia, which is an ally of the ayatollahs' regime. That's why this far-left party remains silent in the face of Iranian attacks on Israel and Russian attacks on Ukraine, and now tries to convince us that the threat is not Russia and Iran, but the US and Israel, which have precisely done humanity a favor by destroying Iran's nuclear program. Podemos has been acting like a puppet of Russia and Iran in Spain for years, and Montero's statements today only serve to confirm this party's eagerness to always choose the wrong side of history.
The anti-Semitic far right and its support for the ayatollahs
Of course, the far left is not alone in its ridiculous role as a useful idiot for the tyrants of Moscow and Tehran, as we have been seeing for years, especially through social media. The far right (and I mean the real one, the one that continues to profess anti-Semitism and feels a hatred for the United States only comparable to its admiration for tyrants like Putin) has also been quick to display its support for the criminal Iranian regime, ignoring the fact that because of this dictatorship Iran is one of the ten countries where Christians suffer the most persecution.
These contradictions shouldn't surprise anyone either. This antisemitic far right, which claims to defend Christian values (forgetting that cultivating and promoting hatred of Jews is openly anti-Christian), has no qualms about supporting Russia despite its alliance with communist dictatorships such as North Korea (the country that persecutes Christians the most in the world), China, and Cuba.
The Western far left has been a mere pawn of Moscow for many years, ever since the Soviet era, and given Putin's communist alliances, it's understandable that even Western communists feel a kinship with a USSR nostalgic like the Russian dictator. But seeing the far right embracing the communists' international alliances makes their intellectual and moral shortcomings even more evident, in case they weren't already clear enough for many.
A success that makes Trump's attitude toward Ukraine even more incomprehensible
Finally, and just as I began these lines by acknowledging Trump's right decision to attack Iran, I can't help but wonder: What argument does Trump have for getting involved in this conflict while turning his back on Ukraine? As I have been saying for some time and as the facts have shown, Israel and Ukraine are two countries that are defending civilization against terrorist regimes. Both Israel and Ukraine have suffered aggression against which they have been defending themselves for years. I think it's excellent that the US is helping Israel, but that makes Trump's abandonment of Ukraine and his policy of appeasement with a criminal like Putin, who poses an even greater threat to the West than Iran, even more incomprehensible.
