A separatist PNV deputy justifies violence against Vox from an official tribune

The Basque Nationalist Party (PNV), founded by the racist Sabino Arana, once again exhibited its particular concept of democracy yesterday.

This Wednesday, during the plenary session of the Álava General Assembly, the deputy general, Ramiro González Vicente, of the PNV, referred to the violence suffered by members of Vox in the Basque provinces, who have been suffering attacks for years from the separatist far-left. Attacks such as the stone thrown at Vox deputy Rocío de Meer in Sestao (Vizcaya) in June 2020, causing a gash from which blood flowed.

The PNV deputy said the following:

"In Álava, the only ones who need an escort are you. When the people from Vox come, they run the risk that the Basque people, who have suffered so much, who have suffered so much during the Franco regime and at the hands of the fascists, run the risk that they will come after you and that there will be problems. Therefore, the only ones who need an escort on the streets in Euskadi are you. We don't have an escort, we don't need an escort, we walk calmly in the streets, and we also feel the people, the majority support of the population."

The Vox delegation in the General Assemblies of Álava has denounced:

"The Deputy General of Álava, Ramiro González, of the PNV, justifies, protects and endorses the violence "of the Basque people" against VOX, from the very rostrum of the General Assemblies of Álava."

The Penal Code punishes incitement to violence with up to 4 years in prison

It should be remembered that Article 510 of the Penal Code punishes inciting violence against a group for ideological reasons with a prison sentence of one to four years and a fine of six to twelve months.

Section 3 of that article adds: "The penalties provided for in the previous sections will be imposed in their upper half when the acts have been carried out through a social communication medium, through the internet or through the use of information technologies, so that they are made accessible to a large number of people." In this case, the speech by the PNV deputy was broadcast live on the website of the Juntas Generales de Álava.

Point 4 adds: "When the facts, in view of their circumstances, are suitable to disturb public peace or create a serious feeling of insecurity or fear among the members of the group, the penalty will be imposed in its upper half, which may be raised to the highest degree." In this case, it is the highest authority in the province of Álava justifying violence against one of his political rivals.

It should be noted that in June 2023, Ramiro González refused to speak with Vox, stating that "it is not a democratic party", but at the same time deputy said that EH Bildu defends "democratic approaches", ignoring the fact that this separatist party has never condemned the 853 murders perpetrated by the terrorist group ETA, including the 22 murders of children and babies. This makes clear what kind of party the PNV is, allied with the PSOE and one of the legislative partners of Pedro Sánchez's government, and a party with which the PP insists on reaching an understanding.
