The Eurofighter Typhoon is the most advanced combat aircraft ever operated by the Spanish Air Force.

Spain received 73 Eurofighters from Phases 1 (19 aircraft), 2 (34) and 3 (20), which are currently assigned to the 11th Wing, based in Morón (Seville), and the 14th Wing, based in Los Llanos (Albacete). In addition, the Air Force expects to receive 45 Eurofighters from Phase 4, completing the 118 units received. These new aircraft would be destined to replace the EF-18 Hornets of the 46th Wing and some of the EF-18s of the 12th and 15th Wings.

The Eurofighter is a multi-role combat aircraft, which can be used in air defense missions against other combat aircraft and also in attack missions. Spain has been operating these aircraft with different types of air-to-air missiles (AIM-120 AMRAAM, AIM-9 Sidewinder, IRIS-T and MBDA Meteor), as well as guided bombs GBU-10, GBU-16 and GBU-48, and soon expects to operate the powerful Taurus KEPD 350 air-to-surface missiles with these aircraft.

This Wednesday, Fly By Wire Aviation (an excellent YouTube channel on aeronautical topics that I recommend you subscribe to) published an interesting video in which a CLAEX pilot (the Air Force's Logistics, Armament and Experimentation Center) shows a Spanish Eurofighter from Ala 14, specifically the C.16-68 (14-68) up close. This aircraft is well known to readers of Defensa y Aviación: in June 2021 we saw the C.16-68 intercepting Russian aircraft in Lithuania, on a NATO Baltic Air Policing (BAP) mission. This aircraft also participated a year ago in the Pacific Skies 2024 expedition, jointly organized by the air forces of Germany, Spain and France, a large-scale deployment that went around the world (the video is in Spanish, you can activate automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):
