Palestine, Putin, and the CIG: Will the far-left hold its next strike in support of Russia?

One of the clearest signs of antisemitism is applying demands to the only Jewish state that don't apply to even the worst dictatorships. Among the organizers of this infamous strike, we can easily find this double standard, to scandalous extremes. An example is Galicia. Here, one of those leading this strike "for Palestine" is the separatist and communist union CIG, affiliated with the BNG, a far-left party that in March 2022 blocked an institutional declaration condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine by the Galician Parliament.

Both the CIG and the BNG display the usual cynicism of the far left when it comes to talking about wars. The CIG already accused Israel of "genocide" four days after the Hamas terrorist attack (using a poster that wiped Israel off the map, which sounds very similar to the idea of ​​genocide), in a call it circulated on October 11, 2023. The number of Israelis killed by Hamas was then greater than the number of Palestinians killed in this war initiated by Hamas (and in which this criminal group passes off dead terrorists as civilians), but the CIG has not accused Hamas of "genocide" even once. Apparently, the fact that criminals rape, torture and murder men, women and children, some of them burned alive in their homes, is something that is downgraded if the victims are Jewish. But then they don't want to be called "anti-Semites."

Some may ask: When will the CIG call a strike against Russia? This question would be misleading, since in the recently concluded war in the Middle East, Israel was the country under attack and the aggression originated in Gaza, so the question would have to be put this way: Is the CIG also going to call a strike in support of Russia? Looking at the CIG website, I wouldn't be surprised at all.

After all, that separatist and communist union has been supporting pro-Russian rhetoric about Ukraine for years, as can be seen here, an article published on March 9, 2022 (two weeks after the start of the Russian invasion) with criticism of the United States, Ukraine and Zelensky but not a single criticism of Russia or Putin. A few days later, the CIG published another pro-Russian pamphlet, even criticizing Western media for portraying Putin as evil.

That same month, the CIG published another pamphlet defending well-known pro-Russian propagandists in Spain, criticizing sanctions against Russia and denouncing an anti-Russian campaign that had been dictated by NATO. A few weeks ago I commented here that Putin's dictatorship encouraged conspiracy theories in the West, a paranoia that curiously always excludes Russia from the bad guys' side in all its conspiracy theories.

Pro-Russian propaganda has continued on the CIG website, reaching hilarious extremes. For example, on March 14, 2025, the CIG published an article written by Greek communist and pro-Russian propagandist Dimitris Konstantakopoulos in which a paragraph began: "The West was defeated in Ukraine in the sense that it could not achieve its goals, which were the overthrow of the Putin regime", then adding that Russia cannot be defeated militarily (I think that the Afghans and the Poles have something to object to that).

In April, the CIG organized protests in several cities under the slogan "Galiza for Peace", criticizing NATO and the "imperialist bloc led by the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union" but without making a single mention of Russia. In case there was any doubt about the sympathies of that communist union, a Russian flag and a Iranian flag were even waved at the Santiago protest, but no Ukrainian flag. The CIG's red banner at that protest read: "Galiza against the imperialist war of NATO and the EU," referring to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This lacks a shred of decency or shame.

The CIG's delirious discourse on the Russian invasion of Ukraine was captured a few months ago in an article with the following title: "NATO's war against Russia has no end in sight," with a text that, among other things, criticized Trump for not having lowered sanctions on Russia. In other words, Russia is invading Ukraine, which is not a NATO member, and the CIG is talking about a "NATO war against Russia." This is nothing new: Communism has long used lies as a propaganda weapon, and the communists of the CIG were no exception, whether we're talking about Israel or Ukraine.
