It described the invasion as a “special anti-fascist military operation”

One of the groups of the 'no to war' marches supported the Russian invasion of Ukraine

The pacifism of the extreme left is not only false and selective, but also contradicts some of its own statements.

Galicia: Cynical 'anti-war' demonstrations carrying Russian and Iranian flags
Communists and nazis come to the rescue of the Iranian dictatorship, just as they did with Russia

This morning we saw here the presence of Russian and Iranian flags at the "no to war" marches organized yesterday in two cities in Galicia. One of the banners seen at the Vigo demonstration (the red one shown in the photo at the top of this article) belonged to the "Comité Antifascista Lourinha" (CAL, Lourinha Antifascist Committee), a violent far-left organization whose leader was summoned to court as a suspect for inciting violence against Vox at a public event organized in Vigo in July 2022.

This small communist group has already had other legal problems. In 2023, its leader was arrested by the Civil Guard for carrying out acts of vandalism and propaganda in favor of Russia, specifically for tearing down a banner supporting Ukraine that was hanging from the balcony of the Mos Town Hall (Pontevedra) and for painting pro-Russian graffiti on the headquarters of the local business association.

In May 2025, that far-left group published a photo of one of their banners in support of Russia (below), along with a text stating: "The Lourinha Antifascist Committee once again expresses its explicit support for the Russian antifascist and anti-imperialist special military operation in Ukraine."

The group's delusional text, written in a mishmash of Galician and Portuguese, added: "Unfortunately, 80 years ago, Europe was not completely denazified by the Red Army led by Stalin. It remains present, as the most terroristic and chauvinistic expression of imperialism, in Ukraine, in the Spanish State, or in the nazi leaders of the EU/NATO. Today, the Russian Federation, like the USSR in its time, is showing the way forward so that we can complete this necessary historical task.".

It was not the first time that this communist group had shown its support for this criminal aggression against Ukraine. On February 24, 2023, the first anniversary of the invasion, CAL posted these photos of banners supporting Russia with the text "We stand with Russia," alongside the Russian tricolor flag.

More recently, on October 24, 2025, that extremist group published photos of graffiti supporting Russia with the slogan "Russia and Palestine will win", made on buildings in Mos and Porriño. Alongside the photos, this text was published: "From the Lourinha Antifascist Committee, we stand in solidarity with antifascist Russia and the axis of anti-Zionist resistance. We support the Russian OME in Ukraine and the Palestinian armed struggle against the Zionist colonial entity of Israel."

The "Comité Antifascista da Lourinha" is one of the members of the "Galiza pola Paz" platform, formed by far-left separatist organizations, including the BNG, the CIG, the communists of Unión do Povo Galego (UPG), and the Partido Comunista pola República Galega (PCRG). This committee appears on the official list of members of this platform, which states its main objective as "the struggle for a peaceful future." Not for Ukraine, it seems. The text accompanying the list includes criticisms of Spain, NATO, and the European Union, but not a single criticism of Russia.
