The number of vehicles captured from the Russians exceeds the Ukrainian losses

Ukraine has captured almost 1,300 Russian military vehicles in 12 weeks of invasion

Today marks 12 weeks since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Within the abundant military losses, there is a fact that draws a lot of attention.

Russia has lost 3,675 vehicles, of which 2,034 have been captured

According to the documented losses published by the independent site Oryxspioenkop.com, from February 24 to today the Russian Armed Forces have lost 3,675 military vehicles in Ukraine, of which 2,034 have been destroyed, 74 damaged, 283 abandoned and -most surprisingly- a total of 1,284 have been captured.

Ukraine has captured 239 Russian tanks, most of them T-72

Of those 1,284 vehicles captured by the Ukrainians, 239 are tanks, mostly T-72s (of the 671 tanks lost by Russia, a total of 401 are T-72s of various variants). Likewise, the Ukrainians have managed to capture 131 armored fighting vehicles, 226 infantry fighting vehicles, 54 armored personnel carriers, 33 infantry mobility vehicles and even 32 command and communications posts.

Among the Russian vehicles captured by the Ukrainian forces there are also 66 engineering vehicles, 8 heavy mortars, 39 towed artillery pieces, 42 self-propelled howitzers, 31 multiple rocket launchers, 4 anti-aircraft guns, 7 self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, 21 ground missile launchers -air, 6 radars, 2 electronic jamming systems and a Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter (which was damaged), as well as 27 drones and 273 trucks and various vehicles.

Captured Russian vehicles exceed Ukrainian losses

The number of Russian vehicles captured by the Ukrainian forces far exceeds the number of vehicles lost by the defenders: 1,046. So far, Ukraine has lost 163 tanks, but those captured from the Russians add up to 239. Something similar happens with armored fighting vehicles (80 lost by Ukraine, compared to 131 captured from the Russians) and infantry fighting vehicles (117 , compared to the 226 captured from the Russians). With these figures, Russia continues to be the main supplier (involuntary, yes) of the Ukrainian Army during this invasion.

Vehicle deliveries to Ukraine from other countries

To the negative balance that these losses represent for Russia, we must add the heavy vehicles that other countries are delivering to Ukraine. According to data collected by Oryxspioenkop.com, so far Ukraine has received the following tanks:

  • 230 T-72 from Poland.
  • 12 T-72 from the Czech Republic.

It has also received 40 British CVR(T) armored fighting vehicles. Ukraine has also received the following infantry fighting vehicles:

  • 56 PBV-501A from the Czech Republic.
  • 40 BWP-1 from Poland.
  • 5 BVP-1 from the Czech Republic.

Likewise, the chapter on armoured transport vehicles donated to Ukraine (some pending delivery) includes the following vehicles:

  • 200 M-113 from the United States.
  • 200 YPR-765 from Netherlands.
  • 50 M-113G3DK from Denmark.
  • 25 Piranha IIIC from Denmark.
  • 35 FV103 Spartan from the United Kingdom.
  • 15 M-113 from Portugal.
  • 14 M-113AS4 from Australia.

The list also includesMRAPs, infantry mobility vehicles, self-propelled and towed artillery pieces, multiple rocket launchers, self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery and surface-to-air missile systems from various countries, in addition to 16 Mi-17 helicopters delivered by the US and 16 Bayraktar TB2 drones delivered by Turkey.
