With his words, the Ukrainian president leaves many in a very bad place

Zelensky's congratulatory message to Giorgia Meloni and her great response

This Monday I already warned that the electoral victory of the conservative right in Italy in last Sunday's elections was bad news for Putin.

Giorgia Meloni's position about Russia and the invasion of Ukraine: bad news for Putin
The intolerable blackmail of Von der Leyen to the Italians not to vote for the right

As we have already seen here, both Giorgia Meloni and her party, Fratelli d'Italia, have been clearly supporting Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion that began on February 24. This support is no surprise to well-informed people. Fratelli d'Italia belongs to the Group of European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), openly Atlanticist and with some of the European parties most critical of Putin's Russia, including Law and Justice (the ruling party in Poland) and Vox (the third most voted party in Spain).

It must be said that certain European leaders have exhibited an ugly attitude in the face of the victory of the right in Italy. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen -who last week blackmailed the Italians with a possible punishment if the right won-, and most of the governments of the countries of the European Union have not congratulated the winner of the Italian elections. Apparently, if the result of an electoral call is not to their liking, they get angry. With this they show they have a curious concept of democracy.

The first European president to congratulate Meloni was Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who sent a message to Meloni on the same election night with "Congratulations" and applause, when he had already confirmed the victory of the right in Italy:

A few hours later, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, whose party also belongs to the ECR, wrote this congratulatory message to Meloni:

On the same day, Liz Truss, British Prime Minister and member of the Conservative Party (which was part of the ECR until the UK's exit from the EU), also congratulated Meloni with this message:

This Tuesday, Volodymyr Zelensky, President of the Republic of Ukraine, joined those congratulations with a cordial message in Italian addressed to the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Italy:

"Congratulations to @GiorgiaMeloni and her party for winning the elections. We appreciate Italy's continued support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. We have a fruitful collaboration with the new Italian government."

Giorgia Meloni replied to Zelenski with this friendly message in English:

I am very glad that the result of the Italian elections, among other good things, means consolidating Italy's support for Ukraine in these difficult times, a support expressed so clearly and so brilliantly by by Giorgia Meloni. Other European leaders, more accustomed to political calculations and lukewarm attitudes, should follow the example of the winner of the Italian elections.
