Separatism is on its way to starting in Catalonia something more and more similar to a scene from Monty Python in "Life of Brian".
A city hall in the hands of far-right separatists
In the town hall of Ripoll, a town of about 10,000 inhabitants in the province of Gerona, a surreal controversy has broken out. In the recent local elections on May 28, a far-right separatist party, Aliança Catalana, obtained the majority with 6 councillors. The socialists of the PSC they wanted to ally themselves with the far-left separatists of the ERC and the CUP, but the pact failed as the councilors did not join from another separatist party, JxCat.
The new mayoress, therefore, is Sílvia Orriols (from Aliança Catalana). The controversy arose when the new municipal government announced that at the parties de San Juan would serve food with products derived from pork. The problem is that Catalan separatism has been going on for decades trying to attract Muslims to Catalonia, mainly from Morocco, turning that region into one of the most important centers of Islamic extremism in Europe. The strategy consisted of turning Moroccan Muslims into new Catalans, taking advantage of the fact that they do not speak Spanish, and thus displacing immigration from Spanish-speaking countries in the Americas.
Far-left separatists cry out against pork meat
On social networks, far-left separatists have begun to accuse the city council of "Islamophobia" for distributing pork , arguing that the distribution of these products is a form of "Islamophobia". Yesterday, an article from the separatist media outlet Elnacional.cat criticized the Ripoll town hall for distributing these products "with public money" and affirmed the following: "The problem is that the poster and the party paid for with the taxes of all the residents of Ripoll excludes, from the outset, a fairly significant part of the group, those who profess the Muslim faith and therefore do not eat pork." The article considered the Ripoll town hall announcement as a "provocation" against "the Muslim neighbor".
The mayor answered on Saturday the criticism received through social networks stating: "This mania of renouncing our own customs to please the counter-communities that dispute our land is an error that we will pay dearly for. It is they who must adapt and blend in with our society, not us with theirs.".
Hatred of Spain, the common denominator of both separatists
In case anyone is tempted to sympathize with this mayor, it should be noted that on the same day, Orriols affirmed that the Catalans are not Spanish, in a call for massive abstention in the general elections on July 23. He's written even bigger bullshit, like what he posted on Twitter in September 2022 , equating Spaniards with Muslims and accusing them of imposing their religion and language on Catalonia: "The Spanish and Muslims have no problem imposing their language and religion in our classrooms." And this he says while Spanish, the most widely spoken language in Catalonia, is discriminated against and persecuted in schools by separatists to the extremes typical of a dictatorship.
Along these same lines of hispanophobia, in August 2022 Orriols accused the "Spanish state" and the "Islamic state" of the 2017 Islamist attacks in Cambrils, thus adding to the separatist hoaxes launched to blame Spain for these crimes. In February 2023, Orriols attacked Vox, a party opposed to separatism, affirming: "Neither the Catalans do anything in the Castilian Parliament [sic], nor should the Spaniards step foot in the Parliament of Catalonia anymore." Curiously, the same ultra-left separatists who criticize the distribution of pork they do not make a single criticism of these declarations of hatred of Spain, basically because that hatred is the common denominator of all Catalan separatism.
