Since ancient times, mountains have been formidable natural defenses on which many fortifications have been built.

During the 20th century, the construction of military defenses in mountainous areas gained special importance during the First World War, with the Alps being one of the most brutal scenes of battles between the Italian Army and the Austro-Hungarian Army. After that experience, in the interwar period several countries - including the traditionally neutral Switzerland - built formidable fortifications in mountain areas, a type of defense that, although it continued to have some usefulness, became outdated in the face of the wider use of aviation during World War II.

In the post-war years and with the arrival of the Cold War, some countries took advantage of old fortifications or built new ones in order to confront a possible enemy invasion by conventional means. These constructions included atomic shelters in case of nuclear war.

This Sunday, the channel Simply Adventure has published a video in which it shows an abandoned NATO military installation, according to the description. The video does not reveal the location of this installation, hidden in an old tunnel, but the inscriptions inside are in Italian (the video is in German, you can activate the automatic subtitles in English on the bottom bar of the player):

You can see some screenshots from the video here. As we see in the following image, some rooms have suffered collapses.

The bunker has a wide and labyrinthine network of tunnels, some of them equipped with frames for watertight doors, like the one we see here.

The military installation consists of several levels, connected with stairs of various types.

A shooting position with an inscription in Italian that says the following: "Tiro di notte o con nebbia" (Shooting at night or in fog), along with the direction and elevation data that should be required. put in that barrel to shoot in those very low visibility conditions.

A part of the galleries has this dark appearance. Everything seems to indicate that this part of the base suffered a fire.
