A tour inside the world's largest military aircraft, the C-5M Super Galaxy

55 years after its first flight, Lockheed's C-5 Galaxy remains today the largest military aircraft in the world.

The C-5 made its first flight in 1968. In 2006, the version currently in service in the USAF, the C-5M Super Galaxy, was developed.

Equipped with four large General Electric F138-GE-100 turbofan engines, everything on this plane is enormous in size. Its dimensions are 75.31 meters long and 19.84 meters high, and its wings have a span of 67.89 meters, with a maximum takeoff weight of 381 tons. Its enormous wings have an area of 580 square meters.

For its military transport work, the C-5M has a huge cargo hold that runs through the entire plane, from the nose to the tail. This aircraft can carry up to 127 tons of cargo and personnel.

Access to the cargo hold can be done through the nose or tail. The nose of the plane is raised above the cabin, while four doors open in the tail, one of which which serves as an access ramp.

Externally this plane is very famous, but the least known thing about the C-5M is its interior. A few days ago, Sam Eckholm published an interesting video in which he shows us this giant of aviation inside:

Here we can see some screenshots of this interesting video. This is one of the two access stairs to the upper floor. The one we see in the image is located near the rear ramp of the cargo hold. The other ladder is near the nose of the plane.

What we see here is the upper deck of the plane, which has space to carry up to 80 seated passengers, as well as a kitchen and a bathroom.

At the back of the second floor there are these curious circular doors that give access to the interior of the tail section of the plane.
