On November 28, a United States Navy Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft suffered a spectacular accident in Hawaii.

The accident occurred when the P-8A (169561 YD-561) was preparing to take off at MCAS Kaneohe Bay Marine Base. The plane overshot the runway and ended up in the water, leaving its landing gear resting on a coral reef. For its recovery, large air bags were used, which gave it the necessary buoyancy to be able to return the aircraft to the ground, where an inspection will indicate if this plane can be repaired or if will be scrapped.

This Friday, the multimedia portal of the US Armed Forces published a video showing the recovery process in fast motion:

You can see below some of the photos of the plane recovery process that have been published by the US Marine Corps.

Members of the US Navy coordinating the positioning of the inflatable bags to recover the P-8A Poseidon.

The placement of airbags in the P-8A Poseidon for its recovery, in which both members of the US Navy and expert divers from the private sector collaborated.

The process of dragging the P-8A towards the ground, already with the airbags placed under the fuselage.

The P-8A at the time of being taken to the ground. Apparently the plane has not suffered serious damage to its fuselage, but its electronic systems and engines will surely have borne the brunt.

The plane already on the ground, seen from the end of the MCAS Kaneohe Bay runway.

The P-8A already on the runway. We see that the nose and radar have been removed.

The plane being towed already on the runway. A crushing is observed in the lower part of its port engine.
