This week, Brazil officially joined the ever-growing list of countries that deserve to be labeled a dictatorship.
Brazil has taken this step by blocking access to Twitter in that country, simply because the social network has refused to comply with the blatantly illegal orders of a judge, Alexandre de Moraes, to censor users of that network who have not committed any crimes. Coincidentally, Brazil is governed by a left-wing extremist, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Judge De Moraes is a socialist who was Minister of Justice between 2016 and 2017, during the mandate of leftist President Michel Temer.
It is curious that there is very little reflection on the ideology of the dictatorships that exist in the world today. If we leave aside the Islamist dictatorships, which are quite a few, we find this list of socialist and communist dictatorships and their population:
Thus, 2,082.59 million human beings live under authoritarian regimes with socialist or communist ideology. If we take into account that there are 8,045 million people in the world, we have that 25.88% of humanity lives under left-wing dictatorships. We are talking about a quarter of human beings.
This gives us a very good idea of the probability that by voting for a socialist you are supporting a future dictator, which is not surprising, since socialism (and its more extremist variant, communism) is an ideology that seeks to place society increasingly under the control of the State, reducing or eliminating the limits on political power, violating the separation of powers and promoting corruption and abuse of power. Brazil is another example of this.
