Today, we Spaniards have witnessed something unprecedented, something that until now had never happened in any member country of the European Union.

The final stage of the Vuelta a España, which concluded today in Madrid, was disrupted by a violent protest by the far left with Palestinian flags, leaving images like these:

The protest was encouraged by the president of the government, the socialist Pedro Sánchez, who hours earlier declared his "admiration" for those who have been disrupting other stages of this sporting competition. This violent protest was attended by the Podemos MEP Irene Montero, who we see in this image rebuking the police, accompanied by Podemos MP Ione Belarra.

While these regrettable images of violence were circulating around the world, the government delegate in Madrid, the socialist Francisco Martín Aguirre, openly praised the violent protest that interrupted this sporting event stating that the protesters had given an "example of dignity" and without making any reproaches for the acts of violence they committed. The police union Jupol has already called for the "urgent resignation" of Francisco Martín and has stated: "Today's image is of a third world country."

Jupol has published this video denouncing that the police officers felt "totally abandoned" and pointing out that "their integrity has been seriously compromised".

The Unified Police Union (SUP) has condemned the acts of violence and added: "It's shameful that they are encouraged by the Government". The SUP added: "There are injuries and Spain's image has been irreparably damaged. Does the Government not care about this?" This union also noted: "almost a thousand dead and 35 years of ETA terrorist attacks and no one blocked the passage of Basque teams".

The Spanish Police Confederation (CEP) has denounced: "What happened today in Madrid, in the final stage of #LaVuelta2025, is intolerable. A violent mob has imposed itself with riots, endangering other citizens, and attacking police officers. Condemnations for these disturbances must come now." This union has denounced the "deafening silence" of the Minister of the Interior, the socialist Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who to this day has still not condemned these acts of violence.

Not only have there been no convictions for these violent acts from the government, but messages of support are coming in for those responsible. Ministers Oscar López Agueda (PSOE) and Mónica García (Sumar) have praised the violent protest that disrupted this sporting event today in Madrid. That is to say, ministers whose salaries we all pay and who have the duty to respect the laws are justifying a crime of public disorder punishable by up to 3 years in prison.

Meanwhile, the government news agency Efe has reported that 22 national police officers have been injured "with bruises of varying severity from the throwing of fences and objects in the violent incidents reported this afternoon in Madrid." In other words, officials who ensure our safety have been injured in a violent protest instigated and praised by the government. Until now, something like this was only possible in town halls governed by the pro-ETA Bildu party.
