Iran and the already blurred lines between the antisemitic far-right and far-left

However, the positions between the far-right (the real one, the one that hates Jews and longs for dictatorships) and the far-left are becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish in some important aspects of political debate, but especially in international politics. After years of exposure to the lies of the Kremlin's propaganda media, both extremes have become a breeding ground for Putin supporters and now also for supporters of the Iranian dictatorship, to such an extent that the boundaries between them are now completely blurred.

In the case of Russia, some see Moscow as the old world capital of communist anti-capitalism and others see it as the Third Rome, their new reference point in the fight against a "globalism" that makes them hate liberal democracies more than a mafia dictatorship in which dissenters usually end up arrested and dead.

In the case of Iran, the common denominator of both extremes is the same: antisemitism. The far left has ended up replacing the antisemitic far right as the great promoter of hatred towards Jews in the West, a hatred disguised as "anti-Zionism" to make it seem less bad, although at its core it is the same garbage: hating Jews for their race or their people. The antisemitism of the far left has a long history: Karl Marx expressed it in a Judeophobic pamphlet in 1844 that any Nazi could sign without hesitation.

In recent days, enthusiasts of the Iranian dictatorship have been appearing on social media, driven especially by hatred of Jews—a purely pathological hatred that has not only led many fanatics to justify the murder of hundreds of Jews (including children and babies) in the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, but now also to justify the massacre of 12,000 protesters in Iran simply because Israel is an enemy of the perpetrators of that horrendous crime. An infamous cocktail of antisemitism and geopolitics has become an excuse for extremists on both sides to support the most heinous criminals in the world.

I think we should learn from this convergence between the two extremes. The traditional division between right and left can explain many things, but in certain debates it falls far short. In cases like Russia or Iran, we're not talking about left or right, but civilization or barbarism. There are people who choose barbarism because they identify civilization with capitalism or globalism, to which they attribute all evils. People like that should be kept as far away as possible. I couldn't care less if some of them defend ideas that coincide with mine, because fanatics capable of defending criminals like Putin or Khamenei end up tainting any other cause they join.
