The old military airfield of the Spanish Civil War in Calzadilla de los Barros

During the Civil War, airfields were built in different parts of Spain to accommodate the air units of both sides.

In Calzadilla de los Barros, in the province of Badajoz, the Republican aviation had a military airfield that was attacked by the forces of the national side in the summer of 1936. Later, when taking control of this area, the national army built some buildings next to the already existing airfield, becoming known as Aerodromo 101, as indicated in elgrancapitan.org. This base was used to attack the republican positions in the Frente de la Serena.

According to arteenruinas.com, the airfield was demilitarized after the Civil War, dedicating the facilities to agricultural and livestock uses, until they were finally abandoned. Today the old airfield is in ruins.
