Catalonia is Spain and Pedro Sánchez no longer has the moral authority to govern

In recent years we have seen Sánchez paying for that support by granting privileged treatment to Catalonia in the distribution of public funds, by granting pardons to separatist criminals who showed no remorse and, finally, granting them a blatantly unconstitutional amnesty to erase all traces of the crimes committed. With all this, Sánchez has done immense damage to our rule of law and to solidarity among Spaniards.

However, it seems that the Socialist leader thinks this is not enough and is still willing to subject us to more humiliation. Yesterday, in Barcelona, ​​Sánchez stated: "Spain and Catalonia are societies, we are extraordinary countries". Thus, in his eagerness to commit any undignified act so that his separatist partners allow him to remain in power one more day, the president of the Spanish government is now speaking of Catalonia as if it were not part of Spain, as if it were a different country like Portugal, France or Italy.

In the nearly seven years he has been in power, Sánchez has proven himself a pathological liar, an unscrupulous politician who has no qualms about saying the opposite of what he thinks with the intention of deceiving, a practice he systematically uses to justify his worst decisions. Of all Sánchez's lies, yesterday's is one of the most serious and intolerable, because he not only seeks to damage our rule of law, but with it, he is threatening the very national unity on which our coexistence is based.

In the face of this lie, we must remember one fact: Catalonia is not a country; Catalonia is part of Spain. This Spanish region has never been an independent country. After being part of the Crown of Aragon, it became part of Spain with the national unification in the 15th century. Catalonia is as much a part of Spain as Madrid, Galicia, Asturias, Andalusia, or the Basque provinces. The Spanish Constitution is very clear regarding national unity in its Article 2, which Sánchez kicked yesterday: "The Constitution is based on the indissoluble unity of the Spanish nation, the common and indivisible homeland of all Spaniards."

Sánchez has already told many lies, but his lie yesterday is the straw that should break the camel's back for all Spaniards. After his statements yesterday, Sánchez no longer has the moral authority to continue governing. A ruler in a democratic country not only owes that authority to the support of a certain number of deputies, but must also preserve it by respecting the rules of coexistence. Sánchez has publicly and notoriously violated the Constitution and no longer deserves to remain in power for one more day.
