The left is carrying out an attack on freedom of information in Spain that is unprecedented in a democratic country.
In this attack, the most radical positions are those of the far-left parties, such as the communists of Podemos. Let's look at an example. This afternoon, the secretary general of that party, Ione Belarra, displayed her fanaticism before the press by falsely accusing a journalist of "racist terrorism" simply for asking her about the attack perpetrated by Moroccan immigrants against an elderly Spanish man in Torre Pacheco, Murcia. Belarra told the journalist she slandered: "You should be arrested." You can see the video of the incident here.

This fanatical attitude is no surprise coming from a communist like Ione Belarra, whose party has supported dictatorships like those in Cuba and Venezuela and whose founder has ties to the Iranian Islamist dictatorship. What the Podemos leader seems to want is for the persecution of the free press that occurs in those countries to also be applied in Spain, turning our country into a dictatorship.
Furthermore, on July 11, just 4 days before this incident, Belarra and Podemos MEP Irene Montero met amicably with Arnaldo Otegui, the top leader of EH Bildu, a party that has never condemned ETA terrorism. Otegui himself was convicted of kidnapping and belonging to a terrorist organization. Belarra published these photos of the meeting on her Twitter account, without making the slightest criticism of Bildu for not condemning ETA's 853 murders, not even the 22 children and babies:
Podemos's curious concept of terrorism doesn't end there. In October 2023, the European Parliament condemned the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel, the worst massacre suffered by the Jewish people since the Holocaust. The resolution of condemnation was approved by 500 votes in favor and only 21 against. Displaying its well-known anti-Semitism, Podemos was one of the few parties that voted against it. It should be remembered that in November 2022, when the European Parliament passed a resolution condemning Russia for terrorism, not a single Podemos MEP voted in favor.
In January 2020, Podemos supported a march in support of ETA prisoners. Perhaps that was when they began to have such a good relationship with a terrorist like Otegui. Likewise, in 2015 and 2016 Podemos opposed accusing ETA and ISIS of genocide, an accusation that this far-left party repeats incessantly and with absolute disregard for the truth against a democratic country, Israel, after that Hamas terrorist attack that Podemos did not condemn.
To all this we must add that in 2020 Podemos announced its intention to legalize the crime of glorifying terrorism, stating that doing things like shouting in favor of ETA is "freedom of expression." This is the same Podemos that now intends to imprison a journalist for asking uncomfortable questions.
For the far left, everything is terrorism except real terrorism. This is a fact that this extremist sector of the left has been demonstrating for decades. Belarra's display of fanaticism is part of that perverse way of understanding the concept of terrorism, according to which a journalist asking about an attack committed by Moroccans is "terrorism," but terrorists massacring hundreds of unarmed civilians in Israel, including children and babies, is not. Free journalists like Vito Quiles asking uncomfortable questions is a hallmark of a democracy. What should not be tolerated in any democratic country is the existence of parties that do not condemn terrorism, whether that of ETA or Hamas.
