The PCE once again sides with the criminal regime of Venezuela

Sánchez's communist partners express their “full support” for the Maduro dictatorship

Spain is the only country in the European Union that has communist ministers, specifically from the Communist Party of Spain (PCE).

Never forget: the Spanish political parties that are accomplices of Nicolás Maduro
What should the world do if a gang of drug traffickers takes over a country?

Those members of the PCE ran in the last elections on the lists of the far-left coalition Sumar, which are Pedro Sánchez's current government partners after the Podemos members left the government. There are currently two PCE ministers: Second Vice President and Minister of Labor Yolanda Díaz and Minister of Youth and Children Sira Rego.

This Wednesday, December 17, the PCE (Communist Party of Spain) published a statement on its website in which it strongly criticizes the naval blockade imposed by the United States against the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro, a regime taken over by a drug trafficking gang, the Cartel of the Suns, to which the US government has accused Maduro of infesting the country with the illegal trafficking of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and other drugs, causing more than 200,000 deaths since 2023.

The PCE statement omits these details and affirms: "The Communist Party of Spain expresses its total, unconditional and unwavering support for the Venezuelan people, their legitimate government, the Bolivarian Revolution and the constitutional president Nicolás Maduro, who today resist not only for themselves, but for all the peoples who refuse to live subjected to imperialism."

This pronouncement in favor of that dictatorship is nothing new, although it is relevant because with it, the PCE (Communist Party of Spain) implicates the Spanish government in international support for a criminal regime that could soon be overthrown. In 2024, the PCE's general secretary, Enrique Santiago, and other members of that party already expressed their support for Maduro after the electoral fraud committed by his regime that same year to perpetuate itself in power.

The PCE is a habitual defender of anti-Western dictatorships. In recent years it has expressed its support for the dictatorships of Belarus, China, North Korea North, Iran, Syria and Vietnam. To illustrate, in its statement today the PCE (Communist Party of Spain) affirms: "Defending Venezuela today is defending Cuba, Latin America, and the Caribbean." The Cuban communist dictatorship, which has ruled that country since 1959 without free elections, violating human rights and with a one-party regime, is one of the usual recipients of the PCE's messages of support.

Meanwhile, the PCE displays a very different attitude when it comes to defending democracies. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, instead of supporting the invaded country, the PCE has dedicated itself to repeating the Kremlin's lies and slogans. In April 2025, that party published a statement mentioning that invasion, criticizing NATO and without mentioning Russia. Likewise, on October 10, 2023, just three days after Hamas's terrorist attack against the Jewish state (the largest anti-Semitic massacre since the Holocaust), Enrique Santiago accused Israel of "genocide" when there were more deaths in Israel than in Gaza. This infamous stance is nothing new. As I pointed out here two years ago, the PCE claims to be twinned with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a group classified as terrorist by the European Union, the United States and Canada.
