Pedro Sánchez cuts Spain's 'bridges' with Israel but maintains them with Russia and Iran

The leftist government of Pedro Sánchez pretends to be a defender of international law, but the facts tell a different story.

Pedro Sánchez's lies to demonize Israel

This Wednesday, the Official State Gazette (BOE) published the dismissal of the Spanish ambassador to Israel, Ana María Salomon Pérez, who had been recalled from that country in September 2025, citing "slanderous accusations against Spain" and the sanctions imposed by the Israeli government on the communist ministers Yolanda Díaz and Sira Rego for their anti-Semitic statements. The excuses of Sánchez's government were very cynical, since the Spanish socialist leader falsely accused Israel of "genocide", an accusation that Sánchez has not once leveled against Russia in four years of invasion of Ukraine.

The double standards of the Spanish leftist government with Israel and Russia are scandalous. In his already blatant campaign to demonize the Jewish state, on September 15, 2025, Sánchez equated Israel with Russia, comparing the Israeli occupation of Gaza with the Russian invasion of Ukraine —an absolute manipulation that overlooked the fact that Israel was attacked by the terrorist organization Hamas, which controlled the government of Gaza, on September 7. October 2023, and did so by perpetrating the largest anti-Semitic massacre since the Holocaust (something that truly deserves to be classified as a crime of genocide). However, Russia attacked and invaded Ukraine without any provocation.

Sánchez keeps Spain's ambassador in Moscow

Curiously, Sánchez has refused to withdraw the Spanish ambassador from Moscow. His government stated in 2022: "If the peace we all desire comes, it will come through diplomacy. Spain will not sever any bridges that could stop this war". In fact, in 2024 the Sánchez government appointed a new ambassador to Moscow, which Putin approved in June of that year. In addition to the embassy, ​​Spain also maintains consulates in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

Sánchez has also kept Spain's ambassador to Iran.

Something similar is happening with the Iranian dictatorship. Sánchez has also refused to withdraw the Spanish ambassador from Iran, even after the massacre of more than 36,500 people for demanding freedom, perpetrated by that Islamist regime at the beginning of this year: the worst massacre in the country's history. The government only decided to temporarily close the Spanish embassy last week because of the US and Israeli military operation against the Iranian dictatorship, as it did four years ago in Ukraine. However, the Spanish diplomatic delegation in Tehran remained during the Iranian regime's attacks against Israel, after which the Sánchez government did not decide to break diplomatic ties with that Islamist regime.

Sánchez did withdraw Spain's ambassador from Argentina

The double standards of Sánchez's government with Israel are also reminiscent of its decision to withdraw Spain's ambassador to Argentina in May 2024, after serious attacks and insults launched from the leftist government of Spain against the Argentine president, Javier Milei, attacks that prompted an official protest from Argentina. It just so happens that both Israel and Argentina have right-wing governments. This explains Sánchez's growing hostility towards those countries while the Spanish socialist leader heaps praise on the criminal communist dictatorship in China.

A sectarian diplomatic policy that brings he closer to Russia's allies.

With its partisan and sectarian use of diplomatic relations, the Sánchez government is generating international tensions with friendly countries to further its domestic political agenda (specifically to create smokescreens to cover up its corruption scandals, which have considerably reduced support for Sánchez's party, the PSOE, in the polls), while maintaining open ties with terrorist regimes like Russia and Iran.

With this, the Sánchez coalition government, formed by socialists and communists, is adopting a foreign policy that distances it from our allies (especially our largest strategic partner, which until now has been the United States) and brings it ever closer to dictatorships allied with Russia, to extremes that deserve to be described as purely aberrant. Let us remember that the Sánchez government even accepted human rights advice from the Iranian dictatorship, a brutal regime that arrests and murders opponents, hangs homosexuals, mistreats women, and persecutes Christians.
