Last Sunday, the Galician town of Ponteareas celebrated Corpus Christi, the feast in which Catholics celebrate the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Holy Mass.
In Ponteareas this celebration is lived with great fervor, to the point of attracting thousands of people from other parts of Galicia and the rest of Spain, and even from other countries. This is due, to a large extent, to the beautiful flower carpets that the neighbors elaborate, with great care, the night before the procession of the Blessed Sacrament. It is a work that takes them all the dawn from Saturday to Sunday and in which whole families collaborate, from children to the elderly.
If in 2016 the weather threatened rain and ended with a downpour falling at dawn, this year the weather was characterized by very high temperatures, arriving in the zone of the County to touch the 40ºC. The night was rather suffocating, which makes the work of the neighbors even more admirable, for if it is normally a very laborious job, it still has more merit to do with the heat they endured last weekend.
For my part, I hope it serves as a small tribute to the neighbors this set of 40 photos that I uploaded to my Flickr account:
