They call for "actively condemning Russian propaganda and disinformation"

The letter of 38 Ukrainian associations against a pro-Russian march in Spain

One more year, as happened last year, groups related to the Putin regime intend to hold a pro-Russian propaganda march in Spain.

Patriotism and the Russian invasion: Do you ask of Ukraine what you would not accept for your country?
Ukrainian refugees leave Spain, helpless by the socialist government of Pedro Sánchez

These marches, disguised as a celebration of the Soviet victory in World War II, has been used by the Kremlin to defend its imperialist discourse and, since last year, to display support in abroad to Russia's criminal aggression against Ukraine, an aggression in which the invaders are committing all manner of war crimes and crimes against humanity. In light of this, 38 Ukrainian associations in Spain have published the following letter, to which Contando Estrelas adheres:

---

Through this open letter, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that state propaganda, disinformation and the deliberate distortion of objective facts have become an integral part of hybrid warfare, which The Russian Federation is waging against Ukraine and the entire democratic world, including the European Union.

Hand in hand with Putin, Russian culture and history have become yet another means of warfare, being used to propagate the fallacy of Russian supremacy over Ukraine and as a justification for the supposed "special historical mission", which he considers, has been “entrusted” to him in order to guarantee the unity of the Slavic people.

In this context, and on the eve of the commemorations of the anniversary of the end of the Second World War (May 8) and Europe Day (May 9), it is especially important to highlight the distorted interpretation of these historical facts, that the Russian federation, with its criminal leadership at the helm, spread systematically. Said distortion seeks to use the memory of the victory of the Soviet Union over Nazi Germany, to create an argumentative framework, through which to justify its genocidal war against Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022 , and its hybrid war against the countries of the European Union.

The presence of the “Z” symbol, used by Russia as a symbol of war in the invasion of Ukraine, within the celebration of the homage to the Immortal Regiment, which took place last year in different European cities, including Madrid; shows that this event was a disinformation operation, within the psychological warfare campaign that Russia is carrying out, in order to spread extremism and violence , to achieve its strategic objectives at the political level.

In view of these threats and challenges to the European Union, we call for the active condemnation of Russian propaganda and disinformation, their practice of distorting history, as well as preventing the performance of tributes to the "Immortal Regiment" Russian throughout the territory of Spain.
