He uses the techniques of the 'democratic' left to impose a single thought

Dictator Nicolás Maduro copies a woke recipe to destroy freedom of speech

The different franchises of socialism are essentially very similar and suffer from a totalitarian impulse that always ends up emerging.

The historical reasons why 'socialist' should sound as bad as saying 'fascist'

Maduro identifies conservatives and classic liberals as 'fascists'

This week, the socialist dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro has announced a "Bill against Fascism, Neofascism and Similar Expressions". The delirious text identifies "moral conservatism" and "neoliberalism" as "fascism" and grants the dictatorship the power to outlaw any organization it identifies as "fascist". And who will decide if an organization is "fascist"? Well, the dictatorship itself, arbitrarily, as it has been doing in different areas for years. Let us remember that in the purest socialist style, in Venezuela there is no independent Justice, so in the end all powers are concentrated in the dictator.

Maduro's socialism and its great resemblance to the fascism he claims to reject

It must be remembered that fascism was neither conservative nor liberal: it is an ideology that emerged from socialism. Mussolini was a leader of the Italian Socialist Party before founding fascism and the German branch of that totalitarian movement was called "national-socialism", significantly. In the end, what Hitler founded was a nationalist socialism, with the same desire as communism to subject the entire society to strict control by the State.

In this sense, the closest thing there is to fascism in Venezuela is, precisely, the Maduro dictatorship: the same hatred for freedom, the same anti-democratic attitude, the same anti-liberal discourse, the same statist discourse and interventionist, the same desire to persecute dissidents and to imprison, torture and murder those who have a different opinion. Pure and simple socialism, in short.

A way of criminalizing dissent that was invented by Stalin

Of course, Maduro is nothing original. The inventor of this custom of calling everyone who disagrees "fascist" was Stalin. He began doing so with the social democrats, whom he labeled "social-fascists", launching a demonization campaign against them that contributed to the rise of national socialism in Germany: the same nazism with which the USSR ended up allying itself in 1939 to invade a democratic, Catholic and conservative country like Poland.

A totalitarian technique copied by the 'democratic' left

That desire to criminalize dissent did not die with Stalin, unfortunately. This habit of calling the entire right "fascist" is something common in the Western left, which assumes as badly as Maduro the right to disagree with his ideological thesis. In countries like Spain we have seen the woke left labeling classic liberals, conservatives, Catholics, pro-lifers and and, in general, the defenders of linguistic freedom, freedom of education, free trade and even judicial independence as "fascists" and "far-right".

It must be recognized that Western wokes have been very successful with this attack on freedom of expression. The so-called political centrism, represented by the European People's Party and its associated parties, has ended up submitting to the ideological theses of the left for fear of being labeled "fascist" or "ultra-right." They have allowed censorship of ideas to be imposed in democratic countries, by those who very often support dictatorships like those of Maduro. Let us remember that in some cases, today's "social democratic" parties are the former single parties of communist dictatorships in the Soviet sphere.

A totalitarian technique copied by the 'democratic' left

Because of this, many Western leftists now have a dilemma regarding Maduro's law to destroy freedom of expression and ideological freedom in Venezuela, since this norm is, after all, a copy of the methods that the Western left uses to impose its unique thought. To criticize it would be to criticize the way in which they have been demonizing classical liberals, conservatives, Catholics and, in general, anyone who is not left-wing. It is this authoritarian desire of the "democratic" left that feeds socialist dictators like Maduro. The most the Western left can do is denounce Maduro for plagiarizing its recipes.
