The Spanish Navy's new S-81 submarine, the first of its class, "Isaac Peral," is the protagonist of a historic journey.

On March 9, this ship began its first national navigation in Cartagena, since entering service on November 30, 2023. The following day, the Spanish Navy published these three photos from the beginning of this historic journey, taken in the docks of the Cartagena Arsenal. In the background we can see the six Segura-class minesweepers based in that military port, and two patrol ships (former corvettes) of the "Descubierta" class, now retired from service, including the "Infanta Cristina" P-77 (click on the photos to enlarge them):

This journey has taken the S-81 to the coasts of one of the Spanish regions most closely linked to the sea since ancient times: Galicia, where one of the three arsenals of the Spanish naval force is located, in Ferrol, and where the Military Naval School (ENM) is also based, in Marín, which trains future Navy officers.

The "Isaac Peral" first stopped in Galicia at the ENM. The S-81 arrived at the Pontevedra Estuary last Thursday, arriving at the ENM docks in the afternoon, where the ship remained until Saturday. Miguel Selas Canga published this video of the submarine's arrival in Marín, in which we see the S-81 passing by the Tambo Island lighthouse and then turning to starboard and entering the ENM inlet, beginning mooring maneuvers at the Torpedo Dock:

On March 14, the Government Delegation in Galicia published these photos of the S-81 in Marín, in which we see, among others, the government subdelegate in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, and the mayor of Marín, María Pilar Ramallo Vázquez, together with the commander-director of the ENM, Captain Pedro Cardona Suanzes. In two of the photos we see, in the background, one of the patrol boats of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, specifically one of the Alusafe 1500 Mk.II class, most likely the "Río Jallas" M-51, which is based in La Coruña.

The Government Delegation in Galicia has published this photo in which we see the visit of several civil and military authorities to the ship, including the Admiral in Chief of the Military Arsenal of Ferrol, Vice Admiral Gonzalo Villar Rodríguez; the Maritime Captain of Ferrol, Jorge Cao Ruiz; the government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco Lobeiras; the government sub-delegate in La Coruña, María Rivas López; the president of the Provincial Council of La Coruña, Valentín González Formoso; and the Delegate for Defense in Galicia, Jesús Ángel Paz, among others.

Yesterday the Spanish Navy published this photo of the S-81 sailing alongside the patrol boat "Tabarca" P-28, of the Anaga class and based in the ENM, sailing along the Galician coast:

After its stopover in Ferrol, the S-81 was seen this morning in La Coruña, sailing near the port control tower.
