Allying with communists is one of the most disastrous of the many bad decisions made by the socialist Pedro Sánchez.
A boycott against Israel that would have an exorbitant cost for Spain
The Spanish government's communist partners (Sumar, the new electoral brand of the Communist Party of Spain -PCE-, and Podemos) now want Sánchez to cancel all defense contracts with Israel, as the second vice president of the government, the communist Yolanda Díaz, a member of the PCE, stated yesterday. Let us remember that these contracts exceed 1,000 million euros, which is why their cancellation would have an exorbitant economic cost for Spain, in addition to critically affecting the defense systems of our Armed Forces, including the areas of intelligence and cyber defense.
They falsely accuse Israel of 'genocide' but they don't say the same about Russia.
Sánchez's communist partners base these demands on a false accusation of "genocide" against Israel, an accusation that has not been supported by any kind of evidence and that contrasts with the refusal of the Spanish left to condemn the crimes of communism's genocide in a vote held in Congress in March 2021. Let us also remember that in 2016 The far left does not want to support European condemnation of ISIS's genocidal crimes against Christians and Yazidis in Iraq.
In fact, neither Sumar nor Podemos have accused Russia of "genocide" in the three years that Putin has been massacring the Ukrainian civilian population, with systematic and deliberate attacks against residential areas and other civilian targets, and with massacres in which men, women and children have been murdered.
The double standards of the Spanish communists make their slander against the people of Israel even more repulsive, who were indeed victims of genocide crimes by Hamas terrorists, perpetrators of the greatest massacre suffered by the Jewish people since the Holocaust. A few days after that attack, Sumar and Podemos refused to support the European condemnation of these atrocious crimes by Hamas. This gives an idea of the moral character of the far left.
Sánchez's communist partners have rejected sanctions against Russia.
But there's more. While Sumar and Podemos openly call for a total boycott of Israel, a democratic country that was attacked by terrorists and has been defending itself against attacks on several fronts for two years, these far-left parties have rejected European sanctions against Russia. Podemos criticized these sanctions in 2022, following Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. In 2014, it criticized sanctions against Russia for the illegal annexation of Crimea. In fact, in the previous European legislature, Podemos was one of the Spanish parties that most often aligned itself with Moscow's interests, surpassed only by Izquierda Unida, the PCE's previous electoral brand.
In 2022, Izquierda Unida (Sumar's predecessor) also rejected European sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. That same year, in a long manifesto endorsing some of the lies of Russian propaganda, the PCE rejected sanctions against Russia for the invasion of Ukraine. Last year, Vice President Yolanda Díaz asked to partially lift these sanctions to obtain spare parts for Russian Kamov helicopters operated by Spanish companies.
An attitude that reveals the antisemitism of the extreme left
As I said a few days ago, the far left fits like a glove to one of the definitions of antisemitism of the IHRA, the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance: "applying a double standard by asking Israel to behave in a way that is not expected or required of any other democratic country". Sánchez's communist partners not only impose a double standard on Israel that they do not impose on other democracies, but they treat a democratic country like Israel with a sick hatred while favoring dictatorships like Russia, Cuba, Venezuela and communist China. This gives an idea of how little these fanatics care about both democracy and human rights.
