A representative example of this trend is the communist party Podemos, which won 71 seats in the 2016 general election and now only has 4 members of parliament. Things could get even worse for them. A poll published by El Mundo last Saturday indicates that this far-left party could be reduced to just 2 seats. A ridiculous figure that puts it on the verge of disappearing.

The violent drift of that extreme left party

This fact, coupled with an ideological fanaticism that is even stronger the more marginal the far left is, explains the increasingly inflammatory speeches of that party, aimed at attracting attention and grabbing headlines. An example of this childish attitude, typical of spoiled children who want adults to pay attention to them and therefore break things, was seen in the speech by Podemos deputy Ione Belarra proposing to "burst the right" from the podium of the Congress of Deputies.

When the far left calls for "blowing up" something, it doesn't just use a figure of speech. Let's remember that in 2021, Belarra was one of the Podemos leaders who justified the attacks by far-left thugs against Vox MPs and supporters in Vallecas—attacks that consisted of throwing bricks and barking at a legally convened public event. For something like this, Podemos should have already been outlawed, because in a democracy it is intolerable for a political party to incite violence against its rivals.

Podemos' support for several dictatorships

With these kinds of attitudes, Podemos has already made it clear that it is not a democratic party. But that is not the only proof in that regard. That party has openly supported the dictatorships of Cuba, Venezuela and China, in addition to acting as puppets of Russia and Iran in Spain. In case anyone has forgotten, let's recall that in 2013, the founder of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, admitted that he allowed himself to be used by the Iranian dictatorship to destabilize Spain. And after that, the socialist Pedro Sánchez had no qualms about making those communists his government partners in 2020.

Belarra aims to eliminate judicial independence in Spain

Of course, when Podemos talks about "burst the right," it's only taking the first step toward bursting other things. Justifying attacks against political rivals is usually just the tip of the iceberg of a broader anti-democratic agenda. Just yesterday, Belarra called for a left-wing takeover of the judiciary, similar to the takeover of RTVE last year, hours after hundreds of Spaniards died in the floods that affected several regions. What Belarra is proposing is to dismantle one of the pillars of democracy, which is judicial independence. A characteristic of democracy that has been under constant attack from the Spanish left for years.

In 2021 Podemos refused to condemn the crimes of communism

Given Podemos' support for dictatorial regimes, it's not hard to imagine what will happen next. After all, the far left has proven to be an effective destroyer of freedom: since 1917, communism has established more than fifty dictatorships. Some of them still exist today and rule over a fifth of the world's population —millions of people who lack basic fundamental rights such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, political and ideological pluralism, and freedom of information. During that time, those dictatorships have killed more than 100 million people.

In case anyone doubts what the left is capable of doing to seize power and perpetuate itself in it, I want to remind everyone that in 2021, Podemos and the rest of the Spanish left voted against the European condemnation of the crimes of communism, a resolution that expressly recalled the "mass murders, genocide and deportations" committed by that totalitarian movement. Considering everything we've just reviewed, we can already get an idea of ​​what that party intends to "burst".
