This excellent fighter, designed from the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet, is larger than its predecessor. It is also a multipurpose aircraft, which can carry out interception, close air support, attack and even in-flight refueling missions. Serving all these purposes, the Super Hornet replaced several US Navy carrier aircraft: the historic Grumman F-14 Tomcat interceptor, the Vought A-7 Corsair II attack aircraft, and the Grumman A-6 Intruder carrier bomber. Additionally, its electronic warfare variant, the EA-18G Growler, replaced the EA-6B Prowler.
