It usurps functions of judges to limit the right to freedom of speech

The regional government of Catalonia imposes a heavy fine for criticism of Islam

Pedro Sánchez's separatist associates continue to violate the Constitution with total impunity and with the complicity of the central government.

Usurping functions of judges to curtail freedom of speech

This violation of the Constitution also affects freedom of expression. Yesterday, the digital newspaper E-Notícies announced that the Catalan regional government has imposed a fine of 10,000 euros on a mayor, Sílvia Orriols, of the separatist party Aliança Catalana, for reasons of opinion, something incompatible with Article 20 of the Spanish Constitution, which protects the right to freedom of speech.

In all democratic countries, those who sanction any abuse of that right should be judges, and not officials at the service of political power. What the Catalan government does, imposing government sanctions for reasons of opinion, is something typical of undemocratic regimes such as those supported by the far-left separatist party that governs that region, Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC), which has openly shown its sympathy for the dictatorships of Cuba and Venezuela.

A heavy fine for criticizing Islam in a televised debate

The fine confirmed yesterday by the Catalan regional government was announced on October 22, 2023 by Sílvia Orriols, in a Twitter message in which it was indicated that the fine is for some opinions expressed in a televised debate in May 2022, in which Orriols considered mass immigration of origin a "mistake". Islamic, stating that Muslims "do not recognize European democracies or our civil laws" and warning about the risk that Islamic law will end up being imposed on the entire society, as happens in many Islamic countries.

The Justice dismissed a complaint in this case

The Catalan government's own document alluded to the filing by Justice of a complaint against the mayor for these opinions, through archiving decree 523/2022. This indicates that Justice did not see reasons for sanctioning these opinions, as they are protected by the constitutional right to freedom of expression. Thus, the Catalan government usurps exclusive functions of judges to amend their decisions and violate a constitutional right.

Criticism of Islam and massive immigration of Islamic origin has been qualified as "Islamophobia" by the same left that constantly attacks Christianity, encouraging not only criticism of this religion (something legitimate), but also disguising as "freedom of expression" the derision of Christians. It must be remembered that in 2001 the European Court of Human Rights noted that Islamic law violates human rights. Today, the Catalan regional government would be able to fine the judges who handed down that sentence.

Separatism has turned Catalonia into a bastion of Islamic extremism

It must be remembered that Catalan separatism has for years encouraged immigration of Islamic origin out of simple Hispanophobia, since immigrants from Hispanic American countries speak Spanish and it is more difficult to convince them that they should only speak in Catalan. As a consequence of this, Catalonia has become the bastion European Islamic Extremism. The Catalan regional government now goes one step further and imposes fines that convey the feeling that Islamic law prevails in Catalonia and criticism of Islam is no longer permitted. And all this while the left exhibits its hostility and waves the flag of secularism against Christianity.
