The Spanish company has options to export this model to several countries

After the delivery of the first S-80 submarine, the "Isaac Peral" S-81, to the Spanish Navy on November 30, its builder has a new challenge.

The state company Navantia, which is the manufacturer of these submarines, has the deliveries of three other units to the Spanish Navy: the "Narciso Monturiol" S-82 (mid-2025), the "Cosme García" S-83 (end of 2026) and the "Mateo García de los Reyes" S-84 (2028). The construction of this submarine has been a great milestone for the Spanish naval industry, and the challenge now for Navantia is to export it.

There were options to sell the S-80 to Turkey, Singapore, Norway and Australia, but delays in the construction of the S-81 and the considerable increase in program costs ended those options. Currently, there could be options to export this model to India (where the Spanish company will compete with Germany, South Korea, France and Russia), Poland, the Philippines and Canada. At the moment, Latin American countries are ruled out due to the characteristics of the submarine, which is too expensive for potential clients in that region.

This Tuesday, Navantia has released a video in English presenting the S-80 to the foreign market. The video, which includes computer images of the submarine, highlights this vessel as the most advanced conventional submarine in the world and points out that it is a long-range ocean submarine with a high level of automation, which allows you to sail with a smaller crew.

Navantia also indicates the missions for which this ship is prepared: anti-surface warfare (ASuW), anti-submarine warfare (ASW), special operations forces (SOF) and selective land attack. The video also points out the AIP anaerobic propulsion of this model (not yet implemented in the S-81 and S-82, in which it will be integrated later), its high detection and identification and its reduced acoustic signature:
