Their losses have greatly reduced Russian air and naval operations

This Saturday, Oryxspioenkop, an independent website that has been documenting the losses of both sides in this war since the beginning of the invasion, announced: "Russia is now visually confirmed to have lost 10.000 vehicles and pieces of heavy weaponry since it began its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022." Those numbers include ground vehicles and weapon systems, air vehicles, and ships. Detailed figures for each type of vehicle can be found on the website oryxspioenkop.com.

As of today, Oryxspioenkop data indicates that Russia has already lost 10,009 military vehicles in Ukraine. Most significantly, a total of 2,834 vehicles, 28% of those lost by the Russians, have been captured by the Ukrainians. The total number of vehicles destroyed is 6,477, which must be add 304 damaged and 394 abandoned vehicles. These enormous losses have not even helped Russia to secure the objectives it set for itself when starting this invasion. In fact, Russian forces remain stagnant on all fronts, which makes it clear the failure of Putin's plans.

Losses of the Russian ground forces

Of all the types of vehicles compiled by Oryxspioenkop, unarmored transport vehicles are the ones that accumulate the most losses: 2,405, mostly trucks. This is due not only to the vulnerability of those vehicles due to their poor protection, but also to the successful Ukrainian strategy that attacked Russian supply lines at the beginning of the invasion, preventing the invading forces from being able to complete the assault on the city of Kiev.

Russian tanks have also racked up huge losses: 1,928 in total, of which 554 have been captured by the Ukrainians, a figure that keeps Russia the main supplier of tanks to Ukraine (unintentional, that is). yes) during that invasion. A total of 1,168 Russian tanks have been destroyed, while 100 of them have been damaged and 106 were abandoned. Let us remember that before the invasion, Russia had 2,840 active tanks, so its current losses account for 67.88% of that armored fleet.

Those heavy tank losses have pushed Russia to resorted to old T-62 tanks last year. A few weeks ago images were released in which you can even see a Russian train carrying obsolete 1950s T-54 and T-55 tanks, taken from warehouses military in eastern Russia. These data indicate that Russia is no longer able to cover its losses with its arms industry.

Aircraft losses leave Russian ground forces without air support

Likewise, Russia has so far lost 79 fixed-wing aircraft (most of them fighter jets), 81 helicopters and 209 UAVs. These numbers explain the fact that Russia has drastically reduced its air operations in Ukraine for fear that its aircraft will be shot down by man-portable surface-to-air missiles, a type of weapon that is relatively cheap and which Western countries have supplied to the Ukrainians in large quantities. This lack of air support is severely reducing the offensive capability of Russian ground forces.

Russia's naval losses and their effects on the invasion

In terms of naval power, the Russian Navy has lost 12 ships. The most serious loss was the missile cruiser "Moskva", sunk by the Ukrainians in April. She was the flagship of his Black Sea fleet. The most damaged ship model is the Raptor-class speedboat, with 5 units lost (3 destroyed and 2 damaged). To an even greater extent than the air force, the Russian naval forcehas considerably reduced its contribution to the invasion and has even sent some of its units stationed in Crimea to Russia, given the risk involved in keeping them in that territory occupied by Russia since 2014, due to Ukrainian attacks in that area.

Lacking naval support, Russia has been unable to carry out landing operations along the entire strip of coastline that Ukraine maintains under its control, and has also greatly reduced naval support for missile strikes. missiles at ground targets in Ukraine.
