What is hidden behind the argument of the PP and its related media against Vox

If no other party had contested the elections, the PP would have an absolute majority

One of the defects of many politicians is that they live so absorbed in their environment that they end up losing their sense of reality.

The typical argument of the PP and its related media against Vox

Since Vox has achieved representation in the institutions in Spain, the Popular Party and its related media repeat the same argument, especially when the result is as unsatisfactory for the PP as that of the general elections of July 23. The argument comes to suggest the following idea: if Vox had not stood in the elections, the PP would have obtained a better result.

Usually, this argument is answered by trying to deny that fact. As I have already pointed out on occasion, the fact that Vox did not exist does not mean that all Vox voters went to vote for the PP. When Vox did not exist, I voted blank, and if Vox dissolved, I would leave the envelope empty again when going to vote. There are many people who are in my situation, because many of us are fed up with the PP, with a party that has repeatedly deceived its voters, a party that asks for the support of right-wing voters to later leave intact the ideological laws of the left.

An argument that also goes against political pluralism

However, I believe that we are making a mistake when answering the argument of the PP justifying that there is a different political option. In reality, this argument of the PP and its related media is not directed only against Vox, but against political pluralism. The one exhibited by the PP is the same attitude that we would perceive more clearly if, for example , a Coca-Cola manager laments the existence of Kas in Spain because it prevents them from selling more drinks, or if a Volkswagen manager publicly laments the existence of Mercedes-Benz because that means losing customers.

Every time the PP and its related media lament the existence of Vox, they are not only displaying their disdain for Vox, but their peculiar idea of something as positive as free competition on the political plane. Positive and necessary. In Spanish society there are not only two ways of thinking. There are many more. And when many citizens perceive that their ideas and concerns are not represented, it is normal for a political party to emerge that offers to represent them and defend their ideas. That is why Vox, despite all the attacks received from the other parties and from most of the media, continues to maintain the support of three million voters.

They have not yet understood what is the raison d'être of a political party

I have already explained the reason why Vox appeared: millions of Spaniards did not feel represented by the PP or any other political party. We needed an alternative option that would represent us and Vox made that wish their own. That now the PP and its media choruses come to lament that Vox exists is the demonstration that they have not understood the raison d'être of a political party, which is to represent its voters, and not to capture votes for no other purpose than accumulate as much power as possible. In fact, if we take this second idea to the maximum of its possibilities, what we will have is the Galician irony with which I title this post, which seems to be the dream of some.
