The head of the Wagner Group gave orders to murder men, women and children

Yevgeny Prigozhin, a war criminal murdered by another war criminal

Today, August 24, Ukraine celebrates its Independence Day. In addition, today marks a year and a half since the start of the Russian invasion.

Russian mercenaries confess the murder of Ukrainian children following orders
The more than 500 Ukrainian children killed by Russia and the appalling silence of many people

This Thursday, citizens will be able to celebrate that Ukraine is still a free country that continues to resist the aggressor and that it continues to count on international help to keep this resistance active, in order to recover that part of its territory that still she's busy. But you can also celebrate that one of their worst enemies is gone.

Yevgeni Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group, dies when his plane crashes

Yesterday, Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group, died when the plane he was traveling in crashed from Moscow to Saint Petersburg. Witnesses to what happened have pointed out that two explosions were heard before the plane crashed, which could be explained in two ways: either that the plane was carrying a bomb or that it was shot down by Russian air defenses (the area where the plane fell is very far Ukraine and the extent of its weapons, even though some in Russia have begun to send messages to that effect).

Putin's motives for liquidating his former ally

In Russia, it is traditional for Putin's enemies to disappear in the most varied ways, and in almost always violent ways, so it is not rash to assume that the Russian dictator is the one behind what happened. Let us also remember that in June, Prigozhin led a failed coup that exposed Russia's weakness. Let us also remember that in that coup, Wagner's mercenaries destroyed seven Russian aircraft, killing all on board.

A fanatic who ordered the murder of men, women and children

When the Russian invasion began, few could have imagined that a year and a half later one of the worst war criminals Ukrainians have ever suffered would meet such an abrupt end. Let us remember that mercenaries from the Wagner Group have testified that Prigozhin gave orders to murder captured Ukrainian civilians, including children. In fact, the head of Wagner was one of Putin's most extreme supporters and one of the men most admired by the most radical Russian nationalists. In May, Prigozhin advocated turning Russian invasion of Ukraine into a "total war", that is, an attempt to completely destroy the Ukrainian people, resorting to all Russian military means.

Putin's assassination of Prigozhin is for Ukrainians as much to celebrate as it would have been for Poles if Hitler had decided to assassinate Heinrich Himmler, the evil SS chief responsible for many of the atrocities committed by the nazis during World War II.

When a free people is attacked by a group of unscrupulous criminals, who loot, torture and rape, indiscriminately attacking the civilian population and killing more than 500 children, these people have every right to celebrate that these criminals kill each other, because the time and energy they invest in it will be less time and energy that they invest in murdering innocents. So, on this day, I address my congratulations to the Ukrainian people:

Happy Independence Day of Ukraine!
