Hamas described this genocide as a “lie invented by the Zionists”

Hamas, its Holocaust denialism and the complicity of a UN agency in Gaza

Today is International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust, a genocide that had the Jewish people as its main victim.

Today the Holocaust is proven with abundant evidence and documentation. Despite this, there are still people and organizations that deny the existence of this genocide. Among Holocaust deniers there are neo-nazi activists and other types of antisemites, who are joined by more and more Islamists. Among the Holocaust denial groups is the terrorist organization Hamas.

Hamas and its Holocaust denialism

15 years ago, events occurred that illustrate not only the degree of anti-Semitic fanaticism of Hamas, but also the complicity of a UN agency with the anti-Jewish prejudices of that terrorist group. In September 2009 it was claimed that UNRWA, the UN agency in Gaza, would teach the Holocaust in its 221 schools in Gaza, more than the third part of the 600 schools in that Palestinian territory.

The response of the Islamist terrorist organization was clear: "We refuse to let our children study a lie invented by the Zionists", Hamas said, an infamous statement that any nostalgic for Nazism could sign. Holocaust denialism is widespread in Gaza and Arab countries. In the same vein as Hamas, Gaza Refugee Committees stated: "The refugee camps committees categorically refuse to let our children be taught this lie created by the Jews and intensified by their media", referring to the Holocaust.

UNRWA omits the Holocaust from its schools in Gaza

Given the denialist position of Hamas and other Palestinian groups, UNRWA denied that the Holocaust was included in its curricula in Gaza. What's more, as a result of that controversy, it was discovered - as the American channel NBC pointed out on September 9, 2009 - that UN schools in the West Bank, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon also did not mention the Holocaust. As often happens, the forgetting of history threatens to repeat its darkest episodes.

The involvement of UNRWA officials in the October 7 attack

Just this week, Israel presented evidence about the involvement of 12 UNRWA officials in the terrorist attack of October 7, an attack in which vehicles and facilities of that agency were also used the UN. Let us remember that already in October, UN Watch denounced that UN officials celebrated that Hamas terrorist attack against Israel. As a result of the data known this week, yesterday the State Department of The US announced the suspension of its donations to UNRWA.

The responsibility of the UN in the new rise of anti-Semitism

The Hamas terrorist attack against Israel on October 7, 2023 was the worst massacre suffered by the Jewish people since the Holocaust. That massacre did not happen suddenly: it is the result of decades of Islamist anti-Semitism in the Palestinian territories, a hatred of Jews facilitated and fueled by a UN agency and by the organization itself, which places Iran in positions of responsibility while that Islamist dictatorship supports Islamist terrorism in several countries, denies the Holocaust and threatens to wipe out Israel.

Let us also remember that the UN Human Rights Council has condemned Israel more times than the rest of the countries combined (including communist dictatorships and Islamist regimes) and that the October 24 UN Secretary General, socialist António Guterres, justified Hamas' attacks against Israel by stating that "did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation", assuming the terrorists' discourse to justify their crimes. With what moral authority can the UN speak about human rights in these conditions?
