Calls for a ceasefire and does not condition it on the release of the hostages

Biden's favor to Hamas at the UN with a resolution celebrated by that terrorist group

Joe Biden is going to go down in history as one of the US presidents who have exhibited the most weakness, with serious consequences for many.

The effects of the weakness that Joe Biden has been exhibiting

In the summer of 2021, Biden's weakness was reflected in a disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan that generated a serious humanitarian crisis in that country and ended up handing it over to a terrorist group, the Taliban. His weakness also gave rise to Russia to invade Ukraine after the humiliating withdrawal of US diplomats from that country, which sent Putin the message that Biden would not lift a finger in that country.

The US abstention from a resolution that favors Hamas

Now, as Israel faces terrorists who massacred hundreds of unarmed civilians in the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, the UN Security Council has called for "an immediate ceasefire" in Gaza during Ramadan. It has done so through a resolution that does not condemn Hamas and that has been approved thanks to the abstention of the US, which has the right of veto in that Council. A veto right that China and Russia have used to block a resolution proposed by the US last Friday that linked the ceasefire to the release of the hostages.

The resolution approved yesterday by the UN Security Council calls for "the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages", without even mentioning the kidnapping group, Hamas, as if to imply that Israel also has committed kidnappings, and without linking it to the ceasefire. We already know the consequences this will have: Hamas is not going to release the hostages, but the UN will demand that Israel stop fighting the terrorists in exchange for nothing: it is a victory for Hamas.

Hamas terrorists express 'satisfaction' with resolution

It was not difficult to guess who would benefit from a resolution that tactically equates a democratic State, Israel, and a terrorist organization, Hamas, which is the cause of this war with the terrorist attack it launched against the people. Israeli on October 7, 2023, a fact that the resolution also does not mention. Yesterday, through its Safa agency, Hamas celebrated this UN resolution and showed its "satisfaction", stating "the need to reach a permanent ceasefire that leads to the withdrawal of the entire occupying army from the Gaza Strip." The terrorist group has asked the Security Council to pressure Israel to that purpose.

Outrage in Israel over US abstention

Unlike the Hamas terrorists, the UN resolution and the US abstention have caused outrage in Israel. After the approval of this text, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled a high-level visit to the US in protest. Yesterday, the Office of the Prime Minister of Israel released a statement which states:

The United States has abandoned its policy in the UN today. Just a few days ago, it supported a Security Council resolution that linked a call for a ceasefire to the release of hostages.

China and Russia vetoed that resolution partly because they opposed a ceasefire that was linked to the release of hostages. Yet today, Russia and China joined Algeria and others in supporting the new resolution precisely because it had no such linkage.

Regrettably, the United States did not veto the new resolution, which calls for a ceasefire that is not contingent on the release of hostages.

This constitutes a clear departure from the consistent US position in the Security Council since the beginning of the war.

Today’s resolution gives Hamas hope that international pressure will force Israel to accept a ceasefire without the release of our hostages, thus harming both the war effort and the effort to release the hostages.

The White House justifies itself by claiming that the resolution is not binding

This situation gives rise to one of the worst crises in the relationship between the US and Israel, as a consequence of a presidency, that of Joe Biden, marked by gestures of weakness. Yesterday, in the face of Israel's outrage, White House National Security Advisor John Kirby said: "We’re kind of perplexed by this. It’s a non-binding resolution, so there’s no impact at all on Israel’s ability to continue to go after Hamas."

Biden has given a political victory to Hamas that will be used against Israel

Kirby's statement ignores the fact that the Biden administration has handed over a political victory to Hamas in the UN Security Council, a fact that will be used by Hamas's international allies to continue criminalizing Israel and fueling anti-Semitism in different countries. Even more criticizable is the support of countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Japan and South Korea for that resolution, uniting their votes with the Chinese communist dictatorship and Hamas allies such as Russia and Algeria. With defenders of democracy like these, terrorists and dictators have it very easy.
