He was representative of the company Gazprom, controlled by the Kremlin

The scandal of González Pons' son reaches Poland while it is silenced in Spain

In Spain there is an astonishing media consensus so that certain news receives almost no diffusion, as we see this week.

Abascal's criticism of the PP for allying in the EU with those who betrayed “Ukraine and Poland”
Poland's hard reproach to France and Germany for their lukewarm attitude towards Russia

Representative in Spain of a powerful company controlled by the Kremlin

This Monday, Ok Diario published a news story pointing out that the son of Esteban González Pons, Spanish MEP of the Popular Party and until recently vice president of the European People's Party, was representative in Spain of Gazprom, the largest company in Russia, controlled by the Kremlin and whose strategic nature as a gas company means that it is used by Putin as a tool of international pressure. Without going any further, the two controversial Nord Stream gas pipelines, used by Putin to subjugate the countries of Eastern Europe, are from that company.

Rajoy's government allowed Gazprom operations in Spain

Yesterday, Ok Diario pointed out that in 2008, González Pons asked to kick Gazprom out of Spain before appointing his son as delegate, but once in the government under Mariano Rajoy, the PP did nothing to prevent the presence of that company in Spain. The same medium indicates that the son of the PP MEP was the representative of that Russian company in Spain between October 2017 and December 2019, and that due to his position he was under the orders of two trusted men of the Kremlin.

Ethe silence of the vast majority of the Spanish media on this case

The very little interest shown by the vast majority of the Spanish media on this matter is very striking, despite the fact that it very closely affects a MEP belonging to one of the two major Spanish parties. Only La Gaceta de la Iberosfera, El Toro TV and Libertad Digital have published this news. The main national media have silenced the case, both those related to the PP and those related to the Socialist Party (PSOE). Furthermore, Vox has asked González Pons for explanations for this, a piece of news published by the Europa Press agency but which has also had very little dissemination.

The scandal reaches Poland

Curiously, the scandal has reached Poland while it is silenced in Spain by the vast majority of the media. Yesterday, the Polish media wPolityce.pl published a news story about this, stating: "Once again it turns out that the corruption scandal affects EU officials who with one hand were repairing the rule of law in Poland and with the other were carrying out orders from contractors of countries like Russia, Qatar and China."

The news, signed by journalist Małgorzata Wołczyk, adds that González Pons "became famous for his willingness to help overthrow the Polish government", in reference to the recently evicted cabinet by Mateusz Morawiecki, one of Putin's greatest enemies and who helped Ukraine from day one in its defense against the Russian invasion and in the reception of Ukrainian refugees in Poland. The news adds that now "the big media are trying to hide the scandal, but fortunately there is still an independent press, so we can learn some interesting details."

González Pons meets with the new Polish minister Donald Tusk

Coincidentally, today González Pons met Donald in Brussels Tusk, the new Polish prime minister, president of the Citizens' Platform (PO), the Polish partner of the European People's Party (EPP), which has come to power after losing the elections but having obtained the support of the socialists. The meeting took place during a meeting of the EPP in Brussels, which was also attended by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the Spanish Popular Party.

Tusk was accused of allowing Russian influence in Poland

The previous Polish government of the Law and Justice party (PiS), Vox's Polish partner, promoted a commission of inquiry into Russian influence in Poland that targeted Tusk, precisely for allowing that that country fell into Russia's orbit of influence in energy mattersduring Tusk's previous term as prime minister, between 2007 and 2014, which was when Russia built the first Nord Stream gas pipeline.
