Her debut as spokesperson for Vox in Congress was brilliant and devastating

Pepa Millán, the young deputy who puts Pedro Sánchez's government in trouble

This year, with the excuse of the late inauguration of Pedro Sánchez, the socialists have had Congress without activity for months.

Persecuting the opposition is only the beginning: Sánchez's blacklist headed by Vox

During the previous legislature, Sánchez and his fellow members often demonstrated their disdain for parliamentary control, using Congress as if it were a rally of the Socialist Party (PSOE) instead of as a platform to respond to the opposition's questions. Despite this, the socialists found themselves with a tough nut to crack, the Vox parliamentary group, then led by Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, an excellent orator who masterfully combines wit with irony.

The abandonment of politics by Iván Espinosa de los Monteros left Vox without a spokesperson. His place was taken by a 28-year-old lawyer who had already been a senator: Pepa Millán. In the Upper House, this young Andalusian woman had already had notable interventions, and now she has become a cross for the government in Congress, as we saw this Wednesday in the first executive control session in this legislature.

Pepa Millán took the floor to ask the government a question about the separation of powers and the neutrality of institutions, two elements of our democratic framework that the socialists are demolishing. Minister Félix Bolaños used his intervention to attack the opposition and to boast of being a democrat, without answering the question. This is what Sánchez and his cabinet colleagues did throughout the previous legislature.

If Bolaños thought he was satisfied with his reply, he could not have been more wrong. In his response to the minister, Millán began to list examples of the PSOE's assaults on the institutions, in a brilliant and devastating intervention that left Bolaños as a simple amateur in that beautiful art of argument. Here you can see the video of Pepa Millán's intervention (the video is in Spanish, you can activate the automatic English subtitles in the bottom bar of the player):

Congratulations to this young deputy. It has been an excellent way to debut in Congress, at a critical moment for Spain. I know that I am not wrong if I say that many of us have felt proud, as Vox voters, when listening to her intervention.
